Liberty Mutual Be Fire Safe this holiday season

As we are get ready for the holiday season lets keep into consideration fire safety. I know at this time of year we all are so very busy with buying gifts or making gifts, finding or decorating the perfect tree and getting up those decorations inside and outside of our homes but here is something for you and yours to remember:

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, nearly 47,000 household fires occur during the holidays each year. Misplaced or dry decorations mixed with fires and candles can lead to injuries, the loss of property, and even to lost lives, a tragedy which most families fail to consider amidst their festive holiday planning.

In preparation for this year's holiday season, Liberty Mutual Insurance and Holly Robinson Peete, actress, philanthropist and mother of four are teaming up to raise awareness and spread simple tips to keep families safe this holiday by encouraging moms to set aside a few moments before the holiday rush to review fire safety precautions and response plans with their family at BeFireSmart.com.

The website www.BeFireSmart.com acts as a resource for parents and educators offering tips for talking with children about fire safety, how to prevent fires and how to create a family escape plan should a fire break out. Games and activities such as a free downloadable coloring book further engage children as they learn how to spot potential fire risks and help to keep their families safe.

Baby Einstein DVD Viewing tips

DVD Viewing Tips

Without exception, one of the most significant moments of discovery for any mom, is the day she realizes her baby truly recognizes her and wants her above all others. That bond, the super-glue of parent child attachment, is the foundation for baby’s healthy development.

At Baby Einstein, each DVD is designed to reinforce parent-child interaction by providing visually interesting, entertaining content that you and your baby can watch together. Whether the theme is art, music, or barnyard animals, each DVD offers an opportunity to cuddle, share, talk, or sing along with your baby. The DVD can also be a jumping off point for more parent child interaction during your everyday routine.

Talk! Talk! Talk!
From the moment we say that first hello to our new baby, we begin developing our little one’s language. So, when you’re watching a Baby Einstein DVD, you don’t have to be quiet. This is a chance to create little stories.

For example, if you see mechanical toys on the DVD, describe the action to your baby—“see the seals go UP the ladder. Now they’re sliding DOWN and around-- very fast.” If your baby starts “talking” back to your sounds, praise, cuddle, and imitate your baby to keep the conversation going. Even if you feel self-conscious about talking to a 6 month old, just stay the course. Your baby is probably listening and may show you with a smile, nod, or squeal, the many different ways they understand your language.

From the Video Theme to the Real World Scene
Whenever there is an opportunity to link what you have seen on the DVD to other experiences in baby’s life, make that connection. For example, if you watched a DVD about animals, you might say, “Oh, look. There’s a BIG fish on the screen. Do we have another fish in our house?” And off you go to look at your gold fish. This kind of activity shows baby that something we see in one place can be seen in other places too.

Bring it to Life
If children or puppets on the DVD are jumping or dancing, you can hold your little one and dance along to show baby how it feels. You can also play infant sized musical instruments to accompany the DVD Orchestra. Or, try using puppets or baby’s favorite stuffed animals to mimic the action in the DVD. You may get giggles from your little one. Babies usually want to do what they see and you can make that happen.

Make it Personal
Try making connections between what happens on screen with what happens in baby’s life. If you have a DVD that contains sign language, try some of the simpler signs with your baby. If you see how the puppets always do silly stuff, bring a puppet to mealtime to help you serve the food or provide additional encouragement to complete the meal.

Make it a Family Affair
Consider using DVD time as a way to interact with the whole family. If baby has an older sibling(s) around you can invite them watch the DVD with you. Encourage your older child to point out the names of the animals, say the colors, or even make animal sounds. They will probably love playing with baby and will be excited about showing off how much they know!

Seatsnug

There is a new product that helps keep your booster seats in place and keep your kiddos safe and snug its called a seatsnug. read and see the image below

taken from www.seatsnug.com:

Product Information

SeatSnug® is a first-of-its-kind product that enhances both the safety and comfort of children riding in booster seats.
Why Do We Need SeatSnug®?

Children in booster seats are at risk of injury and death due to seatbelt slack (looseness). The three-point seatbelt commonly used in motor vehicles, represents a compromise between safety and comfort. A three-point seatbelt allows slack to develop in the lap belt portion while children (or adults!) are riding in a vehicle. Seatbelt slack is acknowledged in the auto industry as a major contributor to injuries and deaths in vehicular accidents.

A loose seatbelt allows a child in a booster seat to bounce around, rock, tip, slide, and even fall over during normal vehicle maneuvering, which can result in injuries, such as a child’s head being thrown against the side of the vehicle, as well as leading to child discomfort, including motion sickness. In frontal impact accidents or during panic stops, a loose seatbelt can further lead to a child submarining under the lap belt. Loose lap belts are also contributors to children, whether in a booster seat or riding without a booster seat, ejecting out of the seatbelt in rollover accidents, allowing children to “fly around” the vehicle, resulting in the potential for severe injuries and even death—even though the seatbelt was buckled!
What’s the Solution?

The brand new SeatSnug® allows the lap belt to be lightly tightened around a child’s hips while riding in a vehicle, preventing seatbelt slack or looseness from developing.

By gently securing a child while riding in a booster seat, SeatSnug® substantially eliminates bouncing, rocking, tipping, falling over, submarining, and ejection, thus reducing the potential for injuries and death in vehicular accidents. At the same time, SeatSnug® improves child stability and comfort.
How Does SeatSnug® Work?

SeatSnug® can be easily and quickly clipped onto a vehicle’s existing factory installed seatbelt. Once a child in a booster seat is buckled up, the lap belt may be lightly tightened around the child’s hips by pulling up on the shoulder strap to more safely secure the child, without affecting the normal operation of the shoulder strap. The child continues to have the comfort of free upper body movement. Thus, SeatSnug® enhances child safety while maintaining and enhancing comfort.

SeatSnug® incorporates the unique race track proven, crash tested, and patented CG-Lock® Technology (visit www.CG-Lock.com for more insights about the CG-Lock).

The CG-Lock technology received The National Parenting Center’s Seal of Approval as a unique car safety device that stabilizes children in booster seats to increase child safety and comfort. SeatSnug® is a CG-Lock technology product designed specifically for children, to provide peace of mind to Moms and Grandmoms, while they drive children around.

Watch the comparison booster seat video, which dramatically demonstrates the merit and benefit of SeatSnug® and the CG-Lock technology in safely and more comfortably securing a child in a booster seat. The differences are amazing—yet the video was done at ONLY parking lot speeds. Imagine the safety difference at much higher speeds or if an accident should occur.

Minimally invasive surgery procedures for women now an option

After the birth of my twins I wanted to get information on a hysterectomy. After looking into the procedure from my doctor I was told it would be a major surgery and that is not an option for me so my husband went to have a vasectomy since 4 kids was more than enough for us. Mom Central(www.momcentral.com) had sent out some information about the AAGL and how there are advances in medicine that allow women to undergo minimally invasive procedures instead of having to undergo a major surgery that takes longer for recovery. If I would have known about these procedures I may have considered having a hysterectomy. Take some time to review the website and the entry below and see what procedures besides a hysterectomy would be available as there are many other conditions that minimally invasive surgery are available.

From the AAGL website:
http://www.aagl.org/healthcare-consumer

Patient & Healthcare Consumer

Less invasive approaches are now available for many gynecologic procedures that once required major surgery. The advantages of minimally invasive procedures include reduced risk of infection, minimized scarring, less blood loss, decreased post-operative pain, and generally quicker recovery time. Thanks to such improvements, minimally invasive gynecology is enjoying an ever-growing following of surgeons and patients alike. Exciting new advances in minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment continue to expand the bounds of gynecologic care.

As a diagnostic tool, gynecologic endoscopy – the use of a miniaturized telescopic device to see inside the abdomen and female organs -- is unparalleled in its ability to permit the physician visual examination of internal organs and early detection of gynecologic disorders. Many of these can be corrected using minimally invasive techniques, often at once.

Minimally invasive surgery is an option all women should consider before committing to any gynecologic procedure. Here you will find the resources to help you learn and understand your options and to make an informed decision. Gynecologic care is progressing quickly and it is our goal to keep you informed so you can seek the best care possible.

Omaha steaks fantastic deal

1) sign up for geico priveledges (you do not have to get a quote or their insurance or be a geico customer) http://tinyurl.com/geicopriveledges
Within an hour or two, you’ll receive an email from GEICO Privileges (the Subject line reads: ENJOY Your Omaha Steaks e-Certificate from GEICO Privileges!). Within that email is a link which will direct you to the GEICO site displaying your $25 coupon code (these are unique codes and may only be used once).

2) Go to http://tinyurl.com/omahasteaks and type in your email address. They will send you an email confirmation right away, and there is a link within the email to start shopping. After you get your gift card code from step one, use that link to order the hamburgers (described below) and it will automatically give you 12 free 4 ounce burgers. The 12 free won't show up in your cart until you check out, so don't panic.

3) When you get your gift card code and go to the link through the step two link, you'll be at the Omaha Steaks website. In the left hand sidebar, click on the link for "burgers/brats" etc. Scroll down until you see the option for "eight 5 ounce steak burgers" for 12.99. Add that to your cart, then checkout. (Note: apparently the $12.99 option doesn't work for everyone, if you get through the next step and it doesn't work, go back and get the $14.99 option. It will cost you $2 more out of pocket, but you'll get that much more meat.) I had to get the 12 4oz burgers for 14.99 to get the 12 free burgers.

4) At checkout, you enter your address etc and you should see the 12.99 burgers, plus the 12 free burgers you got from doing step 2 above. At the point where they ask for payment, you'll see that they add in about $13 for shipping - don't worry, your gift card code will cover that. Before you enter your credit card (or paypal - one of the payment options is "pay by paypal" if that is easier for you), enter your gift card code and hit "apply" or whatever the button says next to that. That should take your total down to roughly $3.98. Then enter your actual payment method and you will only be charged $3.98 (it may be a few cents more or less depending on your address, it was $3.98 for me)

5) Complete the transaction. In a few days you'll be getting a cooler shipment of 5.5 or 6lbs pounds of Steak burgers and depending on if you got the 12.99 or 14.99 option, you are paying like 0.36 or 1.5 a lb and you didn't have to use your gas to get to the store

Responsibility project by Liberty Mutual

My daughter is learning about person responsibilty at school this year and this resource was given to me to evaluate to see how i liked it. it is a very good resource to help teach your kids responsibility in a meaningful way. I looked it over and then found there were things for kiddos as young as my son who is almost 4 years old. there are short films to look at, blogs, guides for discussion adn tons of resources to help you teach responsibilty to your kids. check it out at http://www.responsibilityproject.com/

here are some of the short films on the site that we loved and enojoyed the most:
The Lighthouse: In this animated short, a community comes together to help an elderly lighthouse keeper when he accidentally shatters the beacon as a ship approaches land. This film is appropriate for kids as young as age 4.

The New Boy: A tough move to a new country gets a little easier when boys who start out as enemies come together over a shared moment of laughter. Elementary-aged kids will especially appreciate this short film.

Father's Day: Despite past differences, a mother reconnects with her estranged father for the sake of her daughter. Directed toward an older audience, this film is best for middle school students.

for more information check out the paragraph pasted from www.responsibilityproject.com
Liberty Mutual has put together a resource that can help parents talk with their kids about personal responsibility in a meaningful way. You may remember Liberty Mutual's recent commercials based on the concept of "pay-it-forward" - someone who sees another person participating in an act of kindness and is inspired to do the same for a stranger. Liberty Mutual received an overwhelming reaction from viewers moved by this simple idea, and in response created an entire website devoted to the idea of defining and discussing this elusive but important quality. The site includes resources such as short films, discussion guides, and a blog to help families teach and talk about personal responsibility.

Summer tips from Mommy docs!

Ok we all know its summertime and with our busy schedules and lives we tend to forget things. here are some tips from our friends at www.mommydocs.com and the clorox company:

1. Have a Sun Protection Strategy: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends sunscreen with a minimum Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15. Look for products that provide "broad spectrum" coverage to protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Use this sunscreen routine with your child--daily application 30 minutes before going outside and reapplication every 2 hours (or sooner if swimming, toweling off, or sweating). Creating a routine will establish good habits for the future. In addition, don't forget a wide brim hat, sunglasses with 99-100% UVA/UVB protection, and sun protective clothing.

2 Keep Pests off Your Little One: In the summer, many insects can bite or sting your child. For pesky mosquitoes and ticks, consider a DEET containing insect repellant. Apply sparingly to exposed skin (avoid backs of hands and around the eyes and mouth) and/or to clothing once a day. As the percentage of DEET goes up, the duration of action increases. To prevent unnecessary exposure, always use the lowest percentage that will last for the planned length of time spent outdoors. Never go above 30% or use on children under 2 months old.
3 Keep the Pool Cool and Clean: Small yard pools provide a great way for kids to have fun and cool down when the temperature rises, but they can also harbor germs, such as bacteria. To keep the pool free from unwanted "swimmers," after each use disinfect it with bleach by cleaning with a solution of ¾ cup regular bleach to one gallon of water, then rinse well and dry thoroughly. Safety must: Always supervise children regardless of age when they are around any water; whether it's a bucket, a small backyard plastic pool, or the local community pool.
4 High Heat Means Hydrate: Excessive heat exposure may cause your child to experience a heat-related illness such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke. How to prevent this: take breaks in the shade, avoid playing outside during peak sun exposure hours, and drink, drink, drink! Make sure your child is taking in plenty of fluids before he become thirsty.
5 Rid Rashes and Relieve Itchies: Running through the yard in bare feet, taking a nature walk on a trail, and picnicing in the park are some of the joys of warmer weather. But all of this outdoor activity can expose your child to a host of plants including those which cause poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac. If an allergic reaction occurs, ask the pediatrician about an oral antihistamine and/or a topical skin care product such as a steroid cream or calamine. If the rash is extensive, looks infected, or is not getting better, call your doctor right away.

Also there are more summer tips, podcasts and health Q and A on www.mommydocs.com a site for parents by parents who are also pediatricians. check it out its very cool

Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber!

Ok I had the opportunity to try the new Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber. It is so awesome and works effortlessly! As you know my husband is a Mechanic for a car dealer so when he comes home from work he has to hit the shower and maybe soak in the tub which leaves grease and grime that came from the cars. ewwwwwww! The scrubber took the grime out of my tub and my sinks from that toothpaste that someone and I will not say who, did not rinse all the way down the drain. Anyway I was amazed that my hands and arms were not sore after using this and I did not have to work as hard to get my tubs and sinks sparkly clean.

Read it for yourself if you do not believe what I say even though I speak the truth. I took some info from the scrubbing bubbles web site http://www.scrubbingbubbles.com/products.aspx?product=action-scrubber

Remove the pad from the handle to clean tight spaces, like in corners and around shower fixtures. Action Scrubber™ cleans without gritty chemicals, so it rinses away easily, leaving a brilliant shine.

When you're finished cleaning, simply toss the pad in the trash along with the dirt and grime.

Accuclean Air Filtration

wow there is a air cleaner that you can get installed into your home to keep your air clean and fresh and your home smelling nice. This sounds like something I need in my home with three cats and being by the beach with the sand in the air. Plus Jason and I have severe seasonal allergies. I bet this would take care of the dust that accumulates in my home not completely but a good help :)

taken from the website: http://americanstandardair.com/HomeOwner/LatestUpdates/AccuClean.aspx

Nothing cleans your indoor air like the AccuClean Whole Home Air Filtration System. It removes up to an unprecedented 99.98% of unwanted particles and allergens from the filtered air in your home. Standard 1" throwaway filters and ionic-type room appliances can't even begin to match that.

The health benefits to clean air are obvious, but how can up to 99.98% allergen-free air make you more comfortable?
Removes allergens: AccuClean filters airborne allergens like mold, dust mites, pollen, even pet hair and animal dander, before they can land on your rugs, floors and upholstery.

Prevents odors: The majority of irritating particles like cooking grease, even smoke from burnt food, can be removed from the air.
And now AccuClean™ is also proven to remove more than 99% of the common flu, or influenza A virus, from the filtered air in your home. learn more

A pesticide free remedy to lice!

OK we all have school aged kids or kids in daycare right? And you know someone is bound to come to school with the icky yucky buggies that make our kids itch and us mommies have to completely wipe down everything from the beds to the bedding and so fourth.

Well i have been lucky enough to not have lice since I was in grade school and I thank my lucky stars because I remember all that crappy shampoo that reeked like she put raid in my hair straight from the bottle. I remember my mom cleaning my room like I was diseased and shampooing my mattress to make sure those creepy bugs never returned.

Thanfully there is a remedy that takes away that raid smell and terrible pesticides off our kids heads leaving us guilt free about whether the stuff we are using is poisoning our kiddos.

I received a sample of the lice md from the company to check out but to no avail I could not use the sample because my kids thank God, do not suffer from lice. but I did go onto their website to check out what they were all about. I read on the box you have a money back guarantee which is always a plus for me because i get to be skeptical on things so I would give this a whirl if i had a problem with icky yukcy buggies.

per the lice md website: LiceMD® is a real alternative to pesticide lice treatments. It is pediatrician tested and clinically proven to eliminate lice, eggs, and nits. Find out why LiceMD® is the effective safe and simple solution.

Townhouse flipside crackers

part pretzel, part cracker. I had the opportunity to try townhouse flipside crackers in cheddar flavor. When i say try i mean i only got one cracker out of the box because everyone in my home devoured the whole thing before i could get my hands on more. My husband opened them and I said hey can i get some so he hands me one. It was so yummy! I could have gone for this with a dip or something to spread like cheese or something but alone the crackers are so yummy! The cool thing is you look at one side and its a pretzel and if you flip it over its a cheddar cracker. Yes I am easy entertained but hey its cool I admit it.

here is a link to the nutritional information for the cheddar ones. They do come in plain cracker/pretzel as well.

Whole Grain pop tarts yummy!

ok so i was skeptical of this because every company is doing the whole grain thing lately so when it was pop tarts that came out. I was like ok maybe it won't be so good because the point of pop tarts is that its sweet and fattening and yummy!

So i got the whole grain pop tarts in a couple different flavors because hubby loves fruit and sometimes i don't like it. low and behold i made it and it was so good :). It tasted fattening and yummy still so I don't feel so guilty eating these. It almost feels like i'm eating fatty food and i'm a big cheater as far as my healthy eating habits go.

There are only 2 gm carbs and 1 gm fat per serving too. The only thing i am not keen on is that there are a couple trans fats in the ingriedient list but its less than .5g per serving.

if you wnant a guilty pleasure then totally try these out

check out the website for yourself or go to your grocery store and get them to try out.

FROOSE JUICE BOXES

I had the opportunity to try something new

its called Froose! there are three different varieties and omg its great! my kids drank them up in a couple days they were so good Froose comes in three varieties right now and they are: Playful Peach, Cheerful Cherry and Perfect Pear. the Playful Peach was first to be drank up at my house.

here is some information about froose taken from www.froose.com about the drink and why it is so good.

What exactly is Froose®?
Froose® is a delicious and nutritious whole food beverage specially made and packaged for the healthy growth and development of young children. Froose® is a combination of whole grains and 100% fruit juice. Froose® was developed by a concerned mom and food scientists at The International Food Network at Cornell who were looking for a truly innovative solution to the lack of healthier drink options for young children.

What makes Froose® different?
Froose® is an all-natural patented product unlike any other. Froose® provides your child with all the benefits of organic whole grains and 100% fruit juice in a smooth and delicious drinkable form. Unlike juice and milk, Froose® delivers fiber and whole grain nutrients that are not present in other beverages for children.

Why is Froose® better than juice?
Froose® combines the best of Organic Whole Grains and Fruit to make a delicious and nutritious alternative to juice that is naturally low in sugar and an excellent source of fiber…as much as eating a whole piece of fruit. Froose® delivers whole grain goodness, fiber and half the sugar found in a typical serving of juice. Froose® uses a whole grain base and flavors it with 100% fruit concentrates and organic brown rice syrup. All the elements of the whole grain are incorporated in the final Froose® beverage. Nothing is stripped out. The soluble and insoluble fiber elements along with the whole grain vitamins and other nutrients are in the Froose® beverage. Regular juice consists of simple carbohydrates coming primarily from the sugar of the fruit without all of the other nutrients found in fruit. Pediatricians warn against over consumption of juice by young children and, in fact, the American Academy of Pediatricians recommend no more that 1 ½ cups of juice per day for a two year old. Froose® is the healthy alternative to juice for kids.

Why are whole grains so important for young children?
Whole grains supply complex carbohydrate, protein, fiber and other nutrients children need to maintain energy and build bones and muscles. Young children, just like adults, need fiber and the vast majority do not consume even close to the recommended daily amount. Whole grains and fiber have been clinically proven to prevent heart disease and cancers. With the obesity epidemic raging in our youth, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancers are showing up in children at younger and younger ages. Adopting nutritionally sound eating habits from the start that include the incorporation of more whole grains in the diet of children throughout the day will set them on the path for better lifelong health.

What does the name Froose® mean?
Froose® is a made up word that is trademarked. Understanding that young children love characters and love to rhyme, we invented the Froose® Moose character theme for our beverage line. A great deal of thought, commitment, energy and time went into developing the Froose® beverage. Although we are passionate about and dedicated to delivering nutritionally superior products to young children, we also firmly believe that healthy products can be formulated to taste great and be fun for kids. The Froose® Moose family of Milton, Meredith, Molly and Mitchell delight our young consumers and certainly help to establish at an early age the connection between nutrition, better choices, great taste and fun.

Is Froose® wheat and gluten free?
Yes. We specifically made Froose® with Organic Brown Rice so that the benefits of Froose® could be enjoyed by all children.

Is Froose® pasteurized?
Froose® is fully pasteurized and packaged in environmentally friendly aseptic drink boxes. Visit www.aseptic.org to learn more about aseptic packaging.

Does Froose® have to be refrigerated?
No. Froose® is completely shelf stable and does not need to be refrigerated. However, Froose® tastes even better when served cold. If your child does not finish their opened drink box, then Froose® would need to be refrigerated.

How much Froose® should my child drink?
Froose® is a nutritious whole food drink made from organic whole grains and is naturally low in sugar and calories and has 3 grams of fiber per 4.23 fl.oz. serving. You can provide Froose® throughout the day based on your child’s individual nutrition requirements. Because Froose® is not loaded with simple sugars and empty calories, you can feel good about providing your child Froose® as either a great tasting drink or an on the go snack. Froose® is a good way to help your child get the USDA recommended servings of whole grains each and every day.

Where can I purchase Froose®?
